Madness and wisdom in one day

The dictatorial pandemic law has been approved in the Netherlands. I didn’t expect otherwise. Corruption is just about everywhere. Straight backs and integrity are hard to find. Sincerity is no more than appearance. Secret agendas, that’s very common.

From now on, people can also be obliged to take foreigners into their homes, or their homes may even be taken away. People are still paying taxes for this policy. It is true, although there will come a time when no one will believe that this madness really happened.

Karin and I, we couldn’t care less. We went to the uncrowded beach nearby, sat for about an hour and a half in what the chemtrails still let through of the sun rays, and then dived into the cold sea to go home fresh and in a good mood.

Since a long time I had read something on the beach. Quotes from Nisargadatta Maharaj, each and every one of them striking, which often gave me a smile. I experienced the joy of being there with the woman of my life. I never lasted long with a partner, or a partner with me, but Karin and I went through the fire of confrontation for 7 years, and saw limitations, that made our togetherness difficult, burn away.

Learn to look without imagination, to listen without distortion: that’s all. Stop attributing names and shapes to the essentially nameless and formless, realize that every mode of perception is subjective, that what is seen or heard, touched or smelled, felt or thought, expected or imagined, is in the mind and not in reality, and you will experience peace and freedom from fear.

Nisargadatta Maharaj

Nisargadatta has certainly been the most important teacher in my life, and, when I read his words again by the sea, still is. But I no longer feel the need to consult his words much, I have understood the essence well. And he is without frills or tricks, never intended to bind people to him, as the following quote shows:

*

Under the right teacher, the disciple learns to learn, not to remember and obey. Satsang, the company of the noble, does not mold, it liberates. Beware of all that makes you dependent.

*

In a world where instilling fear is the weapon of control over the human mind, I gladly recommend Nisargadatta to everyone. Given the urgency of matters, I would add: study intensely for a few months, but from day one recognize the authority of observation in and as yourself. I am happy to offer his most important book, I Am That, as a download here:

Words serve to expose illusions, once illusions are seen through, words only make noise.

Reminds me of the Buddha’s disciple, who walked daily with the Master. One day he asked Gautama if a friend of his could accompany them on the walk. Buddha agreed. They walked over mountains, valleys and plains for hours, when at one point the sun started to set. The disciple’s friend said enthusiastically, “What a beautiful sunset!” The walk continued, taking another hour or so before reaching the temple and the friend going on his way. Whereupon the Buddha said to the student: Β¨That chatterbox will not come along next time!Β¨
